FAQ

Is it a standard Secure Digital card (SD)?

Yes, it is. This SD card may be of any capacity used for digital cameras, etc. You can also use miniSD and microSD cards via the respective adapters. Besides, you can use a USB Flash Drive.

Up

Well, it has to be formatted to match a specific instrument, doesn’t it?

Any instrument formats it to itself in its own way.

Up

Is it fit for any keyboard?

Yes, for any keyboard containing a built-in 1.6mb, 1.44mb, 800kb and 720kb floppy disk drive. To make sure that your instrument is 100% compatible, please, see the Table.

I have Roland Е-86. How much will it be to install a UNIFLASH, what will be the outcome and will the SCSI appear?

SCSI, the interface, will not appear. Why should you need the SCSI interface? It would be much cheaper to install our UNIFLASH unit.

Up

If the module is installed in a Roland Е-96, will the song names read on the screen on the instrument?

Yes, names of songs can be read out on the instrument’s display screen.

Up

It all sounds so good. However, I have a simple Yamaha PSR-620. What now? Can I install a conventional 1.44 floppy disk drive with a UNIFLASH into it?

You cannot just install a 1.44 floppy drive and use it because the operating system would not detect it. Nonetheless, can just install a UNIFLASH.

Up

Guys! I wanted to install a SCSI hard disk inside the Ensoniq TS-12, but the SCSI-connector there is freaky - 25 pins! Could you send me the pin layout?

We don’t have the layout of the connector so far. However, I think that it would be cheaper to install a UNIFLASH in the ТС-12 rather than finding the compatible SCSI hard drive.

Up

Does it have to be formatted into 16 bits or a 32-bit option is also possible?

It’s a special format.

Up

As soon as your device is installed inside my instrument, it has to be formatted in the way which is suitable for my instrument. Is it SCSI, IDE or your own special standard?

UNIFLASH is placed inside your instrument and is connected with a standard cable used for 1.44 floppy disk drive.

Up

Does the floppy disk drive remain functioning after the UNIFLASH is installed?

Yes, it does. Your 3.5 disk drive retains all its functions. You can copy data from it to your UNIFLASH and vice versa (only for ver.1 device).

Up

What’s the cost of the UNIFLASH set to 2Gb?

The cost USD 109. The price is the same for any keyboard.

Up

What kinds of instruments does the UNIFLASH support?

All instruments containing a 3.5" floppy disk drive (720k; 800k; 1,44k; 1,6k).

Up

How can I make a search for a song, as the UNIFLASH can contain about 2000 of them?

Perhaps, the best way is to keep record of all songs within each virtual diskette (databank). Once a databank is selected, its contents become visible on the synthesizer’s screen.

Up

Should I send you my instrument to get the UNIFLASH installed? What’s the warranty period?

Not necessarily. We provide a one-year warranty period. We think and the practice shows that the UNIFLASH can outlive almost any keyboard.

Up

Can I write to the UNIFLASH from a computer, not only from my instrument? In some cases it would be faster to write songs on a computer, then to dump the data over to the UNIFLASH and install it into an instrument.

Yes, you can write data to the SD Card or USB Flash Drive directly from your PC. 2AVCom Host file managing program is supplied on a diskette. Anyway, you can get it here.

Up

Roland JV-50 has an unusual 720-Kb disk drive. Does it mean that our SD Card and USB Flash Drive will be distributed into 720-kB virtual diskettes? Do you pre-format a SD Card and USB Flash Drive in a special way?

No, we don’t. The card if formatted by the UNIFLASH.

Up

Is 999 the maximum quantity of virtual disks? If yes, does it mean that a 1Gb SD card will suffice for a 720-kb disk drive?

Yes. Yes it means. The maximum possible number of databanks now is 999.

Up

A JV-50 does not have a sequencer, it reads data from a diskette (or stores them in a small buffer). It takes time. The instrument cannot handle lists of songs. Can I expect that it will work faster with a UNIFLASH?

No, it will not work faster. However, you will get rid of many other problems, for instance, of those associated with worn floppy disk drives of earlier Roland, Korg, Yamaha models, etc, which would need replacement and would cost you a lot.

Up

Are there many people who use your invention? Can you give the addresses? Are there any record holders as regards the duration of the UNIFLASH use? What about the wrecks? What will happen if this thing collapses?

Lots of people use it. The reliability and the stability of performance is our main concern. We have written some special test programs to verify the reliability and integrity of the data storage. Judging on the faultless functioning of our previous products such as HDM (to store the data, a 2.5” hard drive was used) and HDM-UNIFLASH (to store the data, a Compact Flash Card was used) one can make a reasonable conclusion that the UNIFLASH is even more reliable and functionable than its predecessors. The record-holders in terms of duration of use of the HDM (UNIFLASH did not exist at that time) among other instruments, are YAMAHA-QS300, YAMAHA-PSR 630, KORG-i3 which manifest over 15 years (!!!) of faultless operation. In some cases people asked to cut in the control panel into the front panel of their instruments. By the way, most of our local dealers were the first users of our products in their regions. Sure thing, the number of our users has increased many times since then.

Up

When I type the number of a databank, say 77, will I see the title of a song, say, Let It Be, on the screen of Yamaha PSR?

No, you won’t. You’ll see the contents of your 77-th databank (which is your virtual 77-th diskette). If your virtual diskette contains that song, you will see its title on the screen of your synthesizer.
